Department Tour

Take a tour of the Amherst Police Department.

The Amherst Police Department was located in the basement of City Hall at 206 South Main St. After years in this cramped location a levy was presented to the citizens of Amherst for a NEW Police Station. The wonderful citizens of Amherst answered the call and voted to except a tax increase to construct a new building to house the police department. In November 1993 plans moved ahead and the building was underway. Located at 911 North Lake St.. Finally in September 1996 we moved into the new facility.

The new building also houses a new jail. Meeting the state regulations at our old jail was increasingly difficult due to the condition of the building. That jail was eventually shut down, and the Police Department had no jail facility for a few years.
