With the popularity of the inter-net more and more electronic crimes are being reported. From identity thefts to auction “rip offs”. Criminal prosecution is becoming more and more difficult as the victim or the business/person responsible for the problem are in other parts of the country.

If an investigation beginning in Amherst leads to another state, for instance, follow up with the victim or responsible person is almost impossible regarding interviews.

This makes prosecuting this type of crime extremely difficult.

It is suggested that, you, as the consumer be extremely careful of any electronic transactions regarding any type of purchase via the inter-net.

If you have a problem with a purchase you made over the internet, we suggest you file a formal complaint with the INTERNET CRIME COMPLAINT CENTER.

You can link to their “web site” by double clicking on their name. This will connect you to the forms that the I.F.C.C. require regarding this type of complaint.

If you have a complaint of IDENTIFY THEFT. The FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION will handle this type of complaint in the same manner as the I.C.C.C.  Simply double click on their name.

The inter-net can be a very helpful line of communication, but like anything there will always be “bad” people who will do anything to get your money.

It has never been truer with the old saying “Caveat Emptor” (let the buyer beware) when dealing over the inter-net.
