Statement of Equal Opportunity Plan
It is the City of Amherst’s policy to offer affirmatively equal opportunity to all qualified employees and applicants for equal employment without regard to race, creed, color, sex, national origin, age, handicap, or veteran status. We will take positive action to ensure fulfillment of this policy in all areas, including hiring, placement, promotion, transfer or demotion, recruitment, employment adds, wage rates or other forms of compensation, and selection for training, layoff, or termination. Additionally, it is the policy of the City of Amherst to provide its members with a viable means for communicating and resolving grievances and complaints regarding unlawful discriminatory employment practices. Any employee of the City of Amherst who fails to comply with this policy is subject to appropriate disciplinary action.
This policy is part of our commitment to comply with the requirements and objectives set forth by Presidential Executive Order 11246, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, the Veterans Employment and Readjustment Act of 1972, and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, all as amended. We seek to obtain individuals qualified for or trainable for a position, by virtue of job related education standards, training, experience, and personal qualifications.
