March 17 - March 23, 2013

  • On Monday, March 18, 2013, at 09:30 am., an officer was dispatched to a business on South Leavitt Road in reference to a male who fled the store with beer in a basket without paying. The male fled to a vehicle parked nearby.   A witness was able to get the registration of the vehicle. The officer was able to obtain a phone number for the vehicle owner and spoke with her. It was determined her 16 year old son was in possession of the vehicle. Upon a further investigation the vehicle owner's son and another 17 year old male were found to be involved in the theft of the beer. Both juveniles were eventually brought back to the Amherst Police Department and the officer met with their parents. Arrangements were made with the store management to go with civil demand instead of criminal charges.


  • On Friday, March 22, 2013, at approximately 11:27 pm., officers were dispatched to a residence on Axtel Street in reference a criminal damaging complaint. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the resident who advised someone damaged his front door. He stated he was inside the residence when he heard a loud noise at his front door. He then noticed the Plexiglas window on the door was damaged and did not know who would have done it. At this point, the resident wanted the incident logged. Extra patrol was provided.


  • On Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 3:09 am., officers were detailed to Hamilton Street in regards to a juvenile attacking her father. The female left the residence with 4 other people. Officers located the juvenile and her friends and an investigation was conducted. The female juvenile, age 17 of Amherst, was charged with underage consumption and unruly juvenile. The other juveniles were picked up by a guardian.


  • On Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 04:36 pm., an officer was dispatched to the area of Blossom Drive in regards to a male walking door to door asking for money for the Boston Marathon. The male was located and an investigation was conducted. Rodney Blankenship, age 48 of Lorain, was charged with Soliciting without a Permit.


  • On Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 12:40 am., officers were detailed to the area of Cooper Foster Park Road and SR 58 in regards to a mother following her runaway son in a vehicle. The mother and the vehicle in question were located. It was learned the juvenile had exited the vehicle and ran. The juvenile was located and taken into custody. The male juvenile, age 14 of Lorain, was charged with Unruly Child and curfew.
