  • On Sunday, May 18, 2014, at approximately 01:54 AM, an officer observed a vehicle being operated by a suspected suspended driver on North Ridge Road. A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation conducted. James Tolento, age 29 of Lorain, was cited for Driving Under Suspension and Improper Handling of a Firearm. The front passenger in the vehicle, Dalilah Renzhofer, age 27 of Lorain, was cited for Open Container.

 

  • On Sunday, May 18, 2014 at 12:02 PM, officers were dispatched to a business on Kresge Drive in regards to two females that appeared suspicious and may be shoplifting. An investigation was conducted and Angela Moore, age 37 of Lorain, was charged with Safety Belt and Open Container. Lisa Smith, age 38 of Lorain, was charged with Safety Belt, Child Restraint and Petty Theft.

 

  • On Sunday, May 18, 2014, at approximately 05:39 PM, an officer responded to a business on Cleveland Avenue in regards to a male that had caused a commotion with the clerk and threw his garbage in the parking lot. Charles Zakareckis, age 62 of Cleveland, was charged with Disorderly Conduct and Littering.

 

  • On Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at approximately 02:47 AM, officers were dispatched to the intersection of State Route 58 and Cleveland Avenue in reference to a non-injury motor vehicle crash. An investigation was conducted and Hibbard Paine, age 63 of Amherst, was charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, BAC over .08% and Stopping Vehicle; Slow Speed.

 

  • On Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at approximately 06:00 AM, an officer was dispatched to a residence on Milan Avenue in reference to a vehicle theft and theft of prescription medication complaint. Upon arrival, the officer met with the complainant who advised a male was staying at her residence overnight. When she awoke, she found her medication missing, and her vehicle was also missing, along with her car keys. The male who was staying at the residence was also gone and she suspected he took the medication, keys, and vehicle without her permission. A short time later it was learned the male may have driven the vehicle to his job on North Leavitt Road. Officers located the vehicle and arrested the male. The male told the officer the female gave him permission to use her vehicle to go to work on this date. He admitted he drove the vehicle to work even though his driver’s license is suspended. He claimed he did not steal the female’s medications. Michael Nazario, age 32 of Lorain, was charged with Theft, (F-4) for the theft of vehicle, Theft, (M-1) for the theft of the female’s cell phone and Driving Under Suspension. The medications were not found.

 

  • On Friday, May 23, 2014 at approximately 11:47 PM, a traffic stop was initiated on North Leavitt Road for a violation. During the traffic stop, the passenger in the vehicle was found to be in possession of drugs and paraphernalia. Scot Ritorto, age 37 of Elyria, was charged with Possession of Heroin, Drug Abuse Instruments, and Drug Paraphernalia.

 

  • On Saturday, May 24, 2014 at approximately 04:24 PM, officers responded to a business on Cleveland Avenue in regards to a male that was passed out by the entrance. Upon arrival, an officer was advised the male had left northbound on Lincoln Street. The officers located the male and Jason Sherrill, age 41 of Elyria, was found to be intoxicated and was cited for Disorderly Conduct Intoxication and Disorderly Conduct; Persisting. Mr. Sherrill was later picked up by a friend at the Police Department.

 

  • On Saturday, May 24, 2014 at approximately 9:20 PM, an officer observed an ambulance westbound on Milan Avenue with its emergency lights and siren activated. A vehicle, also westbound on Milan Avenue, failed to yield to the right of way to the ambulance. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, it did not stop and continued on. When it finally did stop the driver lied about who he was. The driver later fled on foot and a foot pursuit was initiated. With the assistance of other Amherst Police units and an officer from another agency, the driver was located in a trailer at a trailer park on Quarry Road and taken into custody. Orly Centeno, age 19 of North Olmsted, was charged with Failure to Yield to a Public Safety Vehicle, No Seatbelt, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving Under Suspension, Obstructing Official Business, Providing False Information to a Police Officer Issuing a Traffic Ticket, Failure to Comply with Order of the Police, Possession of Dangerous Drugs and two counts of Possession of Schedule II Drug.
