  • On Monday, May 12, 2014 at approximately 01:42 AM, an officer observed a vehicle being operated with an equipment violation. The officer also observed the driver commit a traffic violation. A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation conducted. The driver, Zi'Aire Duffy, age 21 of Lorain, was charged with Driving Under Suspension, Shortcutting, and Window Tint. He was turned over to another department on their warrant. The passenger, Jasmine Simmons, age 23 of Lorain, was charged with Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Marijuana, Drug Paraphernalia, and Open Container.

 

  • On Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at approximately 07:03 PM, an officer observed a vehicle on North Main Street at the five points intersection. As the vehicle started moving, the officer heard the engine race, observed a cloud of black smoke emit from the tailpipe and heard the rear tires squeal against the pavement. A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation conducted. A male juvenile, age 17 of Amherst, was cited for Squealing Tires.

 

  • On Saturday, May 17, 2014 at approximately 01:45 AM, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Jackson Street and Tenney Avenue in reference to a vehicle striking a telephone pole. It was reported a dark colored vehicle was in the front yard of a residence and that the driver had left the scene. Upon arrival, the officer determined a vehicle had traveled eastbound on Tenney Avenue, failed to stop for the stop sign at Jackson Street and struck a telephone pole in front of a residence on Jackson Street. There was heavy damage to the front driver's side portion of the vehicle and the driver's side front axle appeared to be broken. The driver's door to the vehicle was left hanging open and there were no occupants in sight. It was learned the driver had been picked up by another vehicle. Another officer responded to the vehicle owner’s residence to determine who had been driving the vehicle. As the officer was obtaining the information from the vehicle owner, another vehicle pulled into the driveway. The suspect female driver from the first car was in the passenger seat. After an investigation, Rachel Deisler, age 29 of Amherst, was charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, State Refusal and Leaving the Scene of Accident. The male driving the other car that picked the female up was also found to be intoxicated. Justin Schenker, age 31 of Avon Lake, was charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, BAC Over .170%, and Open Container.
