February 9 - February 15, 2014

  • On Sunday, February 9, 2014, at 01:21 AM, an officer was on patrol on North Main Street and observed a vehicle being operated with an equipment violation. A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation conducted. The investigation revealed resulted in the driver, Gerald Majjasie, age 18 of Amherst, being charged with Underage Possession of Alcohol, Drug Paraphernalia and Plate Light. He was later also charged with Obstructing Official Business when it was learned the male passenger was not truthful about his identity and Majjasie claimed not to know him. Robert Comer Jr., the passenger, identified himself as someone else and received a citation for Underage Possession of Alcohol at the time of the traffic stop. Two juvenile females, age 17 of Lorain and Elyria, were charged with Underage Possession of Alcohol, Curfew and Underage Consumption. After an investigation, Comers identity was discovered and he was later charged with Identity Fraud, Underage Consumption, Forgery, Falsification and Obstructing Official Business.

 

  • On Sunday, February 09, 2014 at 02:36 AM, an officer was dispatched to area of State Route 2 Westbound, just before the State Route 58 exit, for a report of a vehicle off the road with extensive front end damage. The vehicle had completely destroyed a roadside light post. Upon arrival, the officer observed the operator had left the scene of the accident. The officer located the vehicle owner at a nearby business and he admitted to crashing the vehicle. An investigation was conducted and Brian Owens, age 41 of Lorain, was charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, BAC over .08%, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Failure to Control.

 

  • On Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at approximately 02:04 PM, an officer observed an occupied vehicle at the Amherst Turnpike Parking Lot. Due to the extreme cold conditions and the fact that the vehicle did not appear to be running, the officer was preparing to check on the occupant of the vehicle and learned it was listed as a stolen vehicle. An investigation was conducted and the male and vehicle were turned over to another police department. 

 

  • On Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 01:23 AM, an officer was on patrol on Elyria Avenue, near South Main Street. The officer observed the driver of a vehicle in front of him commit several traffic violations. A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation conducted. John P. Toman, age 33 of Amherst, was charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, BAC over .170%, Weaving and Marked Lanes.

 

  • On Saturday, February 15, 2014, at 01:38 AM, an officer was on patrol on North Main St. traveling northbound and observed a vehicle traveling in front of him, weaving within its lane of travel. He also witnessed the vehicle travel over the white edge line off of the roadway on a couple of occasions, and the vehicle continued to travel on and off the white edge line in a weaving course. A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation conducted. Bonnie Garcia, age 50 of Lorain, was charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, BAC over .08%, Weaving Course and Driving in Marked Lanes.

 

  • On Saturday, February 15, 2014, at 11:18 PM, officers were dispatched to Park Avenue near Church Street for reports of a fight in the street. An investigation was conducted and Joshua Dotson, age 28 of Amherst, was cited for Disorderly Conduct Intoxication and Disturbing the Peace. Clifford Dorsey, age 38 of Amherst, was cited for Disorderly Conduct/Intoxication and Disturbing the Peace. Another male was later identified. Joshua Murdy, age 27 of Amherst, was cited for Disorderly Conduct/Intoxication and Disturbing the Peace.
